TEDxSaintLouisUniversityMadrid invited the SLU-Madrid community to participate in the 4th annual TEDx event: “The Future is NOW,” hosted at SLU-Madrid on April 7, 2022, 4-8 p.m.
In person attendance for SLU members only. Event will be streamed online.
What is the impact of Artificial Intelligence on current and future jobs? Are we coming to the end of data privacy? How are sustainable economy initiatives changing today’s world? In what ways are new technologies affecting the way we work, we live, we learn, we socialize?
The Future is NOW is the name of our event this year, where we showed “futuristic” examples that looked very distant years ago but which we face now in our daily lives.

Barcelona, 1975. Licenciado y doctor en Química, máster en Biotecnología Molecular, ingeniero de Materiales y posgrado de Comunicación Científica. Trabaja como investigador y microscopista en la Universitat de Barcelona (CCiTUB/IN2UB). Profesor asociado de materiales en la Facultad de Química. Ha ideado los grupos de divulgación de las nanotecnologías NanoDivulga UB y EspaiNano. Forma parte de la junta de la Asociación Catalana de Comunicación Científica (ACCC). También ha creado los proyectos de educación NanoEduca (premio Nacional de comunicación científica), NanoInventum, y el festival divulgativo de las nanotecnologías, 10alamenos9. Ha ganado el premio de comunicación científica SOCIEMAT 2020 y Universitat de Barcelona 2021. Ha publicado más de treinta artículos científicos, capítulos de libro y cuatro libros divulgativos, uno de ellos, La aventura de Berta a Nanoland, premio literario de Benicarló 2019. @NANODIALOGOS
Moumita Rana

Energy storage to lighter electric vehicles
Moumita was born in Tarakeswar, West Bengal, India. After completing M.Sc. in Chemistry (University of Hyderabad), she joined Jawaharlal Nehru Centre for Advanced Scientific Research, Bangalore as a Ph.D. student. Later she moved to Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research-Mohali and completed her thesis on nanomaterials for renewable energy applications. In 2017, she joined IMDEA Materials Institute, Madrid to work on low dimensional carbon and silicon-based hybrid nanomaterials for flexible energy storage. She has explored the possibilities of incorporating state-of-the-art electrode materials in lightweight structural energy storage composites. At present, she is an Alexander von Humboldt postdoctoral fellow at the University of Münster, Germany. Beatriz Cerrolaza es Ingeniera de Telecomunicaciones, Doctora en materiales avanzados, investigadora y emprendedora en serie. Es CEO de dos compañías tecnológicas, una de ellas dedicada a la seguridad documental y la otra una plataforma digital de mensajería dedicada al cuidado y la profesionalización de la presencia en internet de sus usuarios. Es además conferenciante y oradora habitual en eventos tecnológicos tanto especializados como divulgativos. Es además una reconocida activista en la generación e inspiración de vocaciones STEM sobre todo en niñas y mujeres jóvenes. Es también habitual su presencia en medios como emprendedora de referencia en el ecosistema nacional.

El cuarteto Rabl está formado por alumnos de los últimos cursos del Conservatorio Profesional de Música Victoria de los Ángeles de Madrid. Están especializados en música clásica de todas las épocas y estilos. Con experiencia en música de cámara y ensembles varios, los componentes del grupo formado por Miguel Prieto (violín), Inés Prieto (clarinete), Victoria Muñoz (violoncello) y Daniel Doleschal (piano) han tocado en importantes orquestas como la Joven Orquesta de la Comunidad de Madrid (JORCAM), la Madrid Youth Orchestra (MAYO) o la Royal Concertgebouw Young (RCO Young) de los Países Bajos. A pesar de su juventud, los componentes del cuarteto han participado en conciertos en lugares tan importantes como el Concertgebouw en Amsterdam, el Auditorio Nacional o el Teatro Real en Madrid.

Restructuring of Power in the Internet Age?
Graduate student at Saint Louis University’s Madrid Campus and originally from Kansas City, Missouri, USA. She is completing a Master of Arts in Political Science and Public Affairs with a specialization in both International Relations and Political Crises. McQueeny has worked as a journalist and researcher. Her research focuses on the interplay of perception and political change in the realm of International Relations in the wake of emerging technologies. Projects include the case of Qanon, transatlantic tech policy, disinformation campaigns, and a current thesis work attempting to correlate the shift to the Internet of things (IoT) and the crisis of the liberal international order. La búsqueda de vida en otros mundos
Doctora en Ciencias Biológicas por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid. Trabajó durante dos años en la industria farmacéutica, incorporándose de nuevo a la investigación básica en el Centro de Astrobiología (INTA-CSIC), donde lleva más de veinte años realizando estudios que ayuden a entender las bases moleculares de la adaptación biológica. Dirige el grupo de “Estudios de evolución experimental con virus y microorganismos”. Profesora en diversos másteres, grados y cursos de formación del profesorado y divulgadora para acercar la ciencia al gran público en programas de radio y televisión. Autora de los libros “Virus emergentes. La amenaza oculta” y del más reciente “La vida. Un viaje hacia la complejidad en el Universo”. Interesada en investigar el problema de la desigualdad de género en el ámbito científico y en las iniciativas destinadas a promover una educación más igualitaria desde la infancia y la adolescencia
